Eu Mercosur Trade Agreement Factsheet

Four fact sheets developed by the Institute of Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) provide a factual overview of what the free trade agreement would mean for public procurement, pesticides and genetically modified organisms, food security, climate change and land use. They provide useful facts and figures to policy makers, civil society actors and journalists, and show that critical social and environmental rights are under threat. Experts in politics, civil society and science discuss lessons and ways forward. The Heinrich Boll Foundation of the European Union and the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) cordially invite you to the presentation and debate online on four fact sheets, examining the critical issues at stake in the EU-Mercosur free trade agreement. The list is updated with other country fact sheets. Environmental and social concerns have been among the controversial issues that have led to more than 20 years of negotiations between the EU and the Mercosur trading bloc (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay). Before the agreement can enter into force, the European Parliament, the 27 EU Member States and the national parliaments of the Mercosur countries must, in its form. However, these concerns persist and several EU Member States and the European Parliament have been reluctant to reject the current agreement in its current form.
